Freedom From Uncertainty
October 2010
There is no freedom from one form of uncertainty. The dread you feel about what may or may not happen in your future world is real. Your life is a series of ups and downs, good times and bad times. It always has been. The new economy only accentuates this truth.
The dread you feel on the inside is another story. It's in your heart - and fortunately, freedom is yours for the asking.
Jim felt angst over giving up the role of CEO in the company he founded. Peter felt debilitating stage fright for his biggest opportunities. Ellen had this nagging ache in her chest about having to prove herself. You have your own example if you are willing to look at it.
That's the first step toward freedom from uncertainty. Identify your internal dread about what's bothering you and face it head on. Find where it registers in your body and then settle in on the subtle belief about your unfortunate destiny that seems inescapable. This belief will unceasingly eat at your heart if you let it. Time will not cure it. Alcohol will not help it. And therapeutically discovering why you are all gnarled up inside only reinforces the importance of your past misfortunes and hopelessness for the future.
The present is all we have. If you feel dread in your present moment and ignore it, it will come back and get you later when you least want it to. Accept your moment of internal dread and feel it completely. Go into it deeply and find the belief about your awful future. It will be a bit painful to be sure, but isn't your experience of real freedom worth it?
Only now can you bring the light of possibility into your present moment of dread and open your heart to a new experience. We use the practice of remembrance (for a complete description, see http://www.lionhrt.com/theremembrance.htm) for this transformational work because it will literally wash away your dread and replace it with insight, inspiration, and guidance. Your willingness to face your dread is the door to freedom. Remembrance is the key that will open that door and allow you to run towards your future with creativity and unbridled enthusiasm.
Jim found complete trust and peace, Peter found confidence where the pit in his stomach had been, and Ellen found that she could inspire a team of committed zealots to achieve more than she could when proving herself.
Life is simple, not easy. There's a lot of uncertainty in our external world. The remembrance will not change that. But the remembrance will assist you find the wisdom and confidence in your heart to navigate through whatever challenge life throws at you. Some of our clients call it magical, but we know it to be the truth of who you are - when you remember.
And think about this: would you prefer to live in a predictable world where absolutely everything on the outside went your way but you had no experience of trust inside; or would you prefer to deeply trust your own innate wisdom and creativity in a world full of surprises?
If you know someone who is all gnarled up inside and looking for freedom, please pass this article along to them.
